We’ve got a musical roadmap for that! In this program, we discuss the various formal, harmonic, and poetic structures that composers and librettists have employed through the centuries. Operas and Fairytales/Literature Thursday, October 20 2 p.m. Composers and librettists usually do not invent their own stories; from the earliest operas to the modern day, most stories are taken directly from existing myths, epics, fairy tales, and literature. Musicals vs. Opera Thursday, September 15 2 p.m. Music and drama complement each other like no other art forms can and have done so for centuries. In this program, we discuss the commonalities shared by the two most popular genres uniting music and drama in the 21st century: opera and Broadway musical. Our Friends group is a wonderful organization. The Friends run Library book sales and the money raised supports Library programs like the Summer Reading Clubs. Our Friends group may dissolve due to lack of membership. Please help us! Attend the Annual Meeting to learn more. Thursday, May 12 2:45 p.m.
